Our Sunshine Room Aims To:
Identifying and Reviewing Need
The DSP will operate with the framework from the revised SEND code of Practise 2014 and Local Authority Guidelines.
All children with an EHCP will have individualised targets. Progress towards these targets will be continually monitored by the DSP staff and the SENDCo
Targets are reviewed three times a year formally, one of which will be the annual EHCP review with parents and careers. At the annual review of the EHCP the child may be set new targets in collaboration with other professionals and parents.
Inclusion and Access to School
We aim for our children in the Sunshine Room to benefit from our whole school inclusive system. The Sunshine Room is a valued and integrated part of Sandfield Close Primary School. Children will have specific lessons in the DSP but the aspiration is that children will then have lessons, where children have strengths, in the school with their peers. When children our ready, they will receive the levels of support needed to enable them to progress within the mainstream environment. The curriculum will reflect the needs of the children and provide them with focused and meaningful learning which addresses the social, communication and interaction needs for each child.
Home School Links
Parent and carers are actively encouraged to be involved with all aspects of their child’s education. Parents evening are held twice a year (October and February), EHCP reviews are held yearly. Parents and carers are welcome in school at any time and appointments can be made via the school office to arrange a meeting with the teacher at their convenience.
All parents can have access to communication links with school via the use of phone calls, email, parent mail and ClassDojo.
Links Beyond School
Staff will have access to training and a full range of services from the Local Authority and Specialist Education Service (SES). Our DSP staff aim to network with other Local Leicester DSPs.
